Analytical methods
From BioAssist
The widely used analytical methods in metabolomics research are
i. Gas or Liquid Chromotography
ii. Mass spectrometry
iii. NMR spectroscopy
With GC or LC it is possible to obtain the retention times of the compounds, where as mass spectrometer gives the abundance and mass/charge values of the compounds detected. Therefore it is necessary to use combination of GC or LC with MS to obtain the accurate metablites information. This combination is often refered to as "hyphenated technology". e.g, GC-MS.
